How to edit a document using Natural Input Software?
Natural Input Software consists of several modes
- Selection
- Edit
- Gesture
- Punctuation
- Text
Gesture Window: A gesture window is a transparent square box consisting of a thin blue border.
Punctuation Circle: A punctuation circle is a transparent circle consisting of a thin black border.
Selection Mode: Where a user has the option to select a block of text by penning down and dragging the tip of the pen across the block of text to be selected.
Note: The selection mode is activated if NO gesture window, punctuation circle and stroke(s) of ink are displayed on the screen.
Edit Mode: Where a user has the option to edit text by activating either the text, gesture or punctuation mode.
Note: The edit mode is activated whenever the gesture window OR the punctuation circle is displayed on the screen.
Gesture Mode: To activate the gesture mode a user must pen down INSIDE the gesture window and START to draw the first stroke of ink.
Note: The single stroke of ink drawn after a user activates the gesture mode is interpreted as an editing function such as cut, copy or paste.
Punctuation Mode: To activate the punctuation mode a user must pen down INSIDE the punctuation circle and START to draw the first stroke of ink.
Note: The punctuation mode can also be used to insert a space, tab or return symbol and perform either the paste, case, undo or backspace function by drawing the desired gesture.
Text Mode: To activate the text mode a user must pen down OUTSIDE either the gesture window or the punctuation circle and START to draw the first stroke of ink.

How to pre-empt a handwriting or punctuation timeout?
Handwriting or Punctuation timeout: An interval of time that must elapse after drawing the last stroke of ink on the screen, before all stroke(s) of ink drawn on the screen are interpreted into text or one or more punctuation symbol(s).
Note: The purpose of a handwriting or punctuation timeout is to give a user the necessary time to complete an individual character or symbol that consists of two or more strokes.

How to open up the Punctuation Legend dialog box?

To open up the punctuation legend dialog box: Click on any gesture or modified punctuation symbol icon located in the punctuation toolbar.
Modified Section: Contains a video and the corresponding text description of any gesture or modified punctuation symbol.
Unmodified Section: Contains a video of any unmodified punctuation symbol.
Previous/Next Symbol command button: Allows a user to display the previous or next gesture, modified or unmodified punctuation symbol.
Note: Use the same method as above to open up and use the gesture legend dialog box.
Natural Input’s Option Menu
To open up Natural Input’s option menu: Right click on Natural Input’s taskbar icon.
About option: Single click on the About option to open up a window that displays all the information about the presently installed version of Natural Input Software.
Quick Reference option: Single click on the Quick Reference option to open up a window that displays all the gesture and modified punctuation symbol icons.
Help option: Single click on the Help option to open up the Help dialog box that allows a user to open up the gesture and punctuation training utility or to open up instructions on how to use Natural Input Software.
Enable option: Single click on the Enable option to activate Natural Input Software.
Note: The lack of a red forward slash placed across Natural Input’s taskbar icon indicates that Natural Input Software is now enabled.
Disable option: Single click on the Disable option to de-activate Natural Input Software.
Note: A red forward slash placed across Natural Input’s taskbar icon indicates that Natural Input Software is now disabled.
Shortcut: You can also single click on Natural Input’s taskbar icon to quickly enable or disable Natural Input Software.
Settings option: Single click on the Settings option to open up the Settings dialog box.
- Timeout Section: Handwriting Timeout (Seconds) and Punctuation Timeout (Seconds).
- Ink Section: Ink Width (Pixels), Document Window Ink Color and Gesture Window Ink Color.
- Editing Windows Section: Gesture Window Height (Pixels), Gesture Window Width (Pixels), Punctuation Circle Radius (Pixels), Display Legend Toolbars and Display Dragon Toolbar.
Exit option: Single click on the Exit option to open up the Exit dialog box that allows a user to shut down Natural Input Software.

How to use the Gesture and Punctuation Training Utility?
Purpose of the Gesture and Punctuation Training Utility
Provides practise with drawing, memorizing and recalling gestures and modified punctuation symbols. It also teaches a user how to correctly activate the text, gesture and punctuation mode.

Operation Panel: Prompts the user with the next word, gesture or punctuation symbol to be drawn in the writing window.
Writing Window: Provides a blank rectangular area where a user can pen down and write a given word, gesture or punctuation symbol.
Note: Either a transparent blue gesture window or a transparent black punctuation circle is displayed in the writing window.
Gesture/Punctuation Symbol icon: Displays a diagram of how to draw a given gesture or punctuation symbol.
Note: A user can click on a given gesture or punctuation symbol icon to open up and run a video that demonstrates how to draw the selected gesture or punctuation symbol.
Traceable Gesture Diagram: A numbered directional diagram of a gesture displayed in the writing window.
Traceable Punctuation Symbol Diagram: A numbered directional diagram of a punctuation symbol displayed in the writing window.
To activate the Gesture Mode: Pen down INSIDE the blue gesture window and START to draw the first stroke of ink.
To activate the Punctuation Mode: Pen down INSIDE the black punctuation circle and START to draw the first stroke of ink.
To activate the Text Mode: Pen down OUTSIDE either the blue gesture window or the black punctuation circle and START to draw the first stroke of ink.
Symbols To Train: Allows a user to select whether to train gesture or punctuation symbols.
User Mode: Allows a user to select whether to train gesture or punctuation symbols.
Beginner Mode: Prompts the user to draw a word, gesture or punctuation symbol and also displays a pre-positioned diagram of the word, gesture or punctuation symbol to be drawn, BEFORE the user pens down and starts to draw the first stroke of ink.
Intermediate Mode: Prompts the user to draw a word, gesture or punctuation symbol and also displays a pre-positioned diagram of the gesture or punctuation symbol to be drawn, AFTER the user pens down and starts to draw the first stroke of ink.
Advanced Mode: Prompts the user to draw a word, gesture or punctuation symbol and also removes a gesture or punctuation symbol from the training list, AFTER a user gets it right a given number of times in a row.
Feedback Panel One: Indicates the accuracy of the word, gesture or punctuation symbol drawn in the writing window or if a text, gesture or punctuation symbol modal error has occurred.
Feedback Panel Two: Indicates whether the text, gesture or punctuation mode was activated.
Feedback Panel Three: Indicates the method that was used to activate the given text, gesture or punctuation mode.
Help command button: Opens up a dialog box that provides the definition of the beginner, intermediate or advanced modes and also provides access to instructions on how to use the gesture and punctuation training utility.
More Help command button: Opens up an HTML document with instructions on how to use the gesture and punctuation training utility.
Settings command button: Opens up a Settings dialog box that allows a user to set training parameters such as whether to automatically prompt the user with the next word, gesture or punctuation symbol.
Start/Stop command button: Allows a user to start or stop the gesture and punctuation training utility.
Redo command button: Prompts the user again with the same word, gesture or punctuation symbol that they were just prompted with by the operation panel.
Next command button: Prompts the user with the next word, gesture or punctuation symbol to be drawn in the writing window.

Manual Only: User must click on the Next command button to be prompted with the next word, gesture or punctuation symbol to be drawn in the writing window.
Manual and Automatic: Number of seconds that must elapse, BEFORE the operation panel automatically prompts the user with the next word, gesture or punctuation symbol to be drawn in the writing window.
Training: Number of correct guesses in a row, BEFORE an individual gesture or modified punctuation symbol is removed from the training list, while in the advanced user mode.
Reset Settings to Default Values command button: Changes the present settings back to the default settings.
OK command button: Accepts any changes made to the Settings dialog box and closes it down.
Cancel command button: Rejects any changes made to the Settings dialog box and closes it down.
Apply command button: Accepts any changes made to the Settings dialog box, but does NOT close it down.
